was revising... n the radio played the soundtrack of band of brothers.
The miniseries is still one of my favourites, it still inspires me. It was watching it one night, tat led me to always pursue excellence in what i do.
Major Dick Winters is truly someone who inspires. He always told his men to do their best, keeping them together, to hang tough. To hang tough, he means, is doing your best, everyday.
In episode 7, when the Easy Company men were holding the line at Bastogne, 1st Lieutenant Norman Dike (who joined them for that campaign) asked 1st Sergeant Carwood Lipton (who joined the Paratroopers during their inception b4 WWII) this:
Dike: why did u join the paratroopers, Lip?
Lipton: I want to fight with the best, Sir.
inspiring.
Easy company trained very hardly (and very unfairly) for 2 years under their first Company officer before the war begun. I guess that hardened them too during the various campaigns they fought.
The reward? Heading to Hitler's Eagle Nest, the crown jewel of all.
I guess, to be the best, you are expected to face more difficulties/challenges, more things to do, to help. (Easy company was always 'dumped' doing things other companies would normally retreat/pull back). The reward, would be big, too. recognition, at least for the men in Easy Company. Immortalised by this mini series. What they did, why they do it, what happened to them, what they got out from it.
i hope, this longish post... gives u some kind of inspiration.
or at least remember, peace is not granted. it is fought.
